Audition notice for HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE

From director Daniel Austin:

“Casting is extremely flexible and will be color blind. Seeking any and all ethnic backgrounds, looks, gender expression, etc. Primary casting goal is talent over type.

For a cast of five, what I’m looking for is two lead actors (Female 20-40-range and Male 30-50-range) that can make dangerous, exciting, and bold choices with unwavering commitment in uncomfortable situations, and three Greek chorus actors (2 Female (flex), 1 Male) that can portray multiple characters through complete body and vocal transformation. For all, ability to fully inhabit a realistic character(s) is essential.

For auditions, please prepare a memorized one minute story from your life; dramatic, comedic, or otherwise. Be honest and do not play a character – just be yourself.

After stories are shared, be prepared to stay and read sides from the script. Please come familiar with the sides and ready to make strong choices. Links to sides can be found on The 5 & Dime website audition page (COMING SOON). Copies will be available at the audition, but you are welcome to bring your own. Be familiar with multiple sides as you may be asked to read more than one.

Please come to audition on time (not an “open house” call) prepared to list ALL conflicts in May, June, July, and August. Dress in simple, distraction-less clothing. Ladies, no high heels. Come ready to work, not perform!

If you cannot make the audition date and would like to be considered, please email Lee Hamby at BEFORE the audition date with resume, contact information, current photo or headshot, conflict schedule in May/June/July/August, role desired, and video link of both a one minute story and a monologue reading of your choice from the side selections. Note that preference will be given to actors that are present at the auditions to read.”
